Ironically I'm taking it for the hell of it, as a break from psychology. ..and because I'm an immigrant. It filled up quickly which is a good sign.

Hey -

It's Jess K! I came across this funnily enough by searching Third North computer lab, haha. I created a user name (about my 3rd choice, but I'm ok with it, & I'm not going to blog) just so I could let you know that we are in the same comp lit class! I officially declared a minor in it today just so I could guarantee a spot in that class (I was going to eventually anyway). I love the topics film/lit: reading south by south I'm in now, so I'm sure that this too will (revolution) rock :)

Thanks for the approval/comment. It's good to get another perspective on that show. Yes we have grass, but we are seldom allowed to walk on it. Feel free to comment on/critique any more stupid things I write, and have a good semester. This one's killing me.

Yeah, the pubescent boy comment was excessively mean, but I wrote what I thought during the set. I just thought her "vocals" distracted from the actual effort and talent from the musicians. I still think her movements/facial expressions were sexual, but then again I attend NYU where sexual health is thrown at us whenever we walk down the street.

I don't know if I would go as far as saying that it just wasn't my "scene." I checked the bands out before I walked into the door. In terms of Graffiti Monsters, I got the "gimmick" and liked them for the most part. I would've really really liked Ponytail without the vocals.

From another cynical 19 year old, it sounds like this show just wasn't your scene. Experimental and Brooklyn-y are what most people came for and Ponytail and especially Yeasayer have fairly large followings. The venue was an issue. People like to dance at Ponytail shows and telling them they can't is a problem. They are definitely not a band meant to be enjoyed quietly seated. Strangely enough, the most "chill" band of the evening got the most people out of their chairs. I guess star power wins out. I would also ask you to give Graffiti Monsters another listen. The way the electronics and traditional instruments echo and build on one another was what sold them to me. Also the pubescent boy comment is a little harsh, and I'm not quite sure what was sexual about her dancing. You're right, Ponytail is about energy, lots of it, in the instrumentals, the vocals, and in moving yourself around to the former.
