ONLY IN NEW YORK CITY.
An A/C unit fell SIX FLIGHTS down onto the restaurant awning of Wine Bar, bounced off, and hit one of the building residents. (Anthony Franzese)
t falls six flights and hits Anthony Franzese, a tenant of the building
I live in the East Village on Second Avenue above Wine Bar and it’s normally fairly dead in terms of news-worthy excitement. I was coming home from class and CBS/Channel 2 were literally outside my door. This video is actually my first take on an iPod Nano video recorder but it’s also the most “to-the-point” and it also gives you an impression of the elements everyone’s dealing with. (rain, wind)
As you can hopefully hear, I spoke to someone from the New York City Department of Buildings, who told me what happened.
UPDATE:
Identity of victim now known via EV Grieve (photography credit) and The Post. Turns out it’s my neighbor (Anthony Franzese) two doors down — a Vietnam veteran who was evicted and about to be vacated from the apartment he lived in for 38 years. His door is stickered with “God bless America”, “Beware of dog”, and other military stickers. He supported both restaurants in our building as I saw him dine in both Winebar and Bar Paya with his dog on a daily basis.

CBS is still outside my window at 5:50pm and there is a small group of photographers near the front door.
I need to extend a thank you to The Village Voice Blog, The Lo-Down and EV Grieve and Neighborhoodr EV for the mentions!
