It is very awkward to be approached on the streets of New York by people trying to get you to care about the environment or $60 spa deals. I feel bad most of the time and fear the possibility that I may end up with the same assignment. Pedestrians are all “commuting” somewhere with a specific time to make – no one is going to stop and chat. One guy literally started walking with me by Smith restaurant by Third North. He yelled after me that I don’t care about the environment when I got him off my ass.
Today a girl lined herself up with me that I couldn’t avoid her. Fuck.
“Can I ask you a question about your hair?” she asked.
“Sure”
“How much do you spend to get it done?”
“Uhm, like 20 bucks.” I techincally lied. I paid someone to cut my hair twice this school year, so that’s about $33. Other than that, it only takes me $15 every 6-8 weeks to look this way.
“What?? In the city?!” She’s clearly never been to Supercuts on St. Marks or used a hair dye kit from Walgreens. It’s not really a good way to start trying to talk to someone to take advantage of a $60 “deal” in some salon. She was using words outside of my vocabulary – like “facial” and “wax.” Now I can conform to look like every blonde-highlighted idiot AND learn a new language for the low price of $60.
But seriously. Look at me. Do I look like I even brush my hair?
